Start of Goat Hobby
I am using a
wheelchair due to a terrible automobile accident that I had in 2008. I am
constantly bored and am in search for something to occupy my time. One day I
drove my wheelchair accessible van that my father had bought for me to the next
town over to get some pecans shelled. The man shelling the pecans for me had
some goats for sale. I bought a pregnant nanny, and tied her to my electric
wheelchair in the van and drove her home. Everyone from my wife, in-laws, parents
and anyone else that knew me said I was crazy and that I couldn’t raise goats.
I bought a couple more nannies and a stud and I was off to the races. That was
a year and a half ago, today I have 9 goats and I think they are all pregnant.
I have put up a fence around a pasture that my mother-in-law lets me use. I have
built them a playground; a hay rack added on to a barn and doubled their living
quarters. I feed and water the goats except the days when we have bad weather
and I can’t go outside due to getting my electric wheelchair getting wet or
drenched to the bone. Using a wheelchair to take care of goats is not as easy
or as fast as standing up and walking to do it.
Don’t get me wrong I haven’t done all this alone. I have a
wonderfully loving and supportive wife and family. I could not do any of this
by myself and for this I am truly grateful. I would consider taking care of the
goats my favorite hobby.
You can do anything that you want to do. I'm sure that you love taking care of those goats and that you have grown to love them! I have a friend that has some goats and I never really knew how sweet they could be. They bring her a lot of joy!
